Kaleidoscope Theatre in Victoria B.C. commissioned me to design an outdoor stage for their theatre in the park series. In the production photos (by Veronica Bonderud Photography) the performance is Mary Jane Mosquito, summer 2021. As I live in London and the pandemic was in another peak this entire process was conducted remotely.
I had fun this with this project. My process is very sketchy, which is something I’ve had to embrace and enjoy. I draw a lot and use the sketching process to work out ideas. It was a simple set, inspired by Baroque prosceniums but took several steps to figure out the logistics of achieving stability in the open air, short set up time, and compact travel. I was so grateful to have the Pacific Opera shop to manage the build and paint, and to Pat Rundell, Artistic Director of Kaleidoscope Theatre, to bring me onto this project.
